The Australian Blind Golf Association was formed to promote the game of golf amongst Blind and Vision Impaired Persons, and to co-ordinate blind golf between the States of Australia.

The Association aims to represent Australian blind golf internationally and to create and maintain a register of blind golf events within Australia, players, sight classifications and handicaps. Introduction
The Australian Blind Golf Association [A.B.G.A] was formed in 1993, with
four [4] Members. The Members are State Associations based in Western
Australia, New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia.

A.B.G.A is a founding Member of the International Blind Golf Association
[I.B.G.A.]

Activities.
For the first time in 2007, the A.B.G.A conducted an Australian Blind
and Vision Impaired Stapleford Championship in Adelaide during May.

The West Australian Blind Golf Association [W.A.B.G.A] conducts the
Australian Blind and Vision Impaired Golf Open in Perth each year and it
is part sponsored by the I.B.G.A. This event is conducted over two days
and is held at the end of October each year.

The West Australian Open, an 18 hole Tournament is played at the time of
the Australian Open.

The Vision Impaired Golfers Association of New South Wales Tournament,
36 holes over two days is held in Sydney during September each year at
Barnwell Park.

The Victorian Blind Golf Association Tournament is also a 36 hole event
held over two days at Rosebud Country Club in March each year.

New South Wales and Victoria play an annual interstate challenge at Yass
Golf Club in February each year. The Interstate Challenge has been
played very successfully each year for the past 10 years.

A.B.G.A. players regularly enter in International tournaments, Australia
has the current Men's and Ladies World Nett Champions. Peter Robinson
and Jenny McCallum both won at the World Championships in Japan in April
2006.

Players are rated by an Order of Merit, which is updated after each
tournament and is used to pick players to compete in World
Championships. The World Championships are conducted biannually and the
next one will be in Northern Ireland in August 2008.
